The story of Gaffigan began with his birth on July 7, 1966. He was born in Elgin, Illinois. He is the son of Marcia Mitchell and Michael A. Gaffigan. His mother was a charity worked and fundraiser while his father was a banker and also the former president and CEO of the Mercantile National Bank of Indiana.
Jim was raised as the youngest in a family of six children. He grew up in Chesterton, Indiana with his siblings. Unfortunately, his parents died from cancer. His mother died first in 1990 and his father followed in 1999.
